In the Deveron Press centenary year we focussed on republishing works by and about Leatham. The Centenary proper will end in May 2017 with the publication of the Centenary Collection Ten in all its glory - AND with the first NEW publication from the Deveron Press in more than 70 years. We are happy to announce that this will be 'Sanners Gow's Tales and Folklore of The Buchan by Macduff native Pat Hutchison. It is a collection of 23 short stories written in the language of the North East - Doric. Leatham said ‘publishing is an adventure’ and we've certainly found it to be that in the past year. It is in that spirit that the new Deveron Press are happy to publish this volume of Pat’s stories as the first post Centenary Collection publishing ‘adventure.’ We are sure James Leatham would have approved of the stories and the man. The official launch of the book will be on Saturday 20th May at Municipal Buildings Turriff, but you'll be able to pick up a copy sooner than that - watch this space - we're going through final proof stages right now and hope it'll be ready for pre-publication copies just after Easter. If our 'adventure' doesn't throw any more jeopardy our way between now and then! Deveron Press is happy to announce a project funded by Scottish Fair Trade Foundation to engage the people of Turriff from 8-80(+) in exploring the meaning and practicality of Fair Trade. We will look at the what, how, where and why of Fair Trade and develop creative responses illustrating how it relates to our own lives.. The Launch event will be held at the Municipal Buildings on Saturday March 4th (during Fairtrade Fortnight) between 2-3.30pm. There will be an opportunity to sample fair trade ‘fly cup and fancy piece’ as well as find out more about the project to come. Over the summer there will be a series of ‘fly cup’ workshops which will feature guided creative writing workshops encouraging people to discuss and write their own fairtrade ‘stories’. These will then be edited into a book which will be published during Scottish Book Week in November and will mark the end of the project. Dates for summer workshops are: May 31st (Weds 1.30-3.30pm) June 24th (Sat 11-1pm) July 19th (Weds 1.30-3.30pm) August 19th (Sat 1.30-3.30pm) The creative responses will be turned into a publication which will be launched during Book Week Scotland in November. All are welcome and you are invited to attend one or all of the workshops. To find out more why not attend the FairTrade ‘fly cup and fancy piece’ event on March 4th.
